COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

A. COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES
1. One syllable adjectives and two syllable ones ending in "y". 2. Other comparative adjectives of more than one syllable.
With these types of adjectives add "-er". With this type of adjective add the word "more".
Examples:

His eyes are bluer than yours.

Your day was busier than mine.

My father is angrier than my mother.

Her face is paler than his.

Examples:

This student is more capable than that one.

James is more selfish than Michael.

Some workers are more punctual than others.

I am more grateful than you are.

 

B. SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES

1.One syllable adjectives and two syllable ones ending in "y". 2.Other superlatives of more than one syllable.
With these types of adjectives add "-est". With this type of adjective add the word "most".
Examples:

Jane's legs are the longest in the beauty contest.

Bob is the shortest boy in the class.

This story is the funniest in the book.

Your answer was the silliest of them all.

Examples:

It is the most dangerous job in the world.

This is the most delicious meal in the restaurant.

He is the most boring teacher in the school.

This car is the most expensive on sale.
